Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of the legendary medieval way of pilgrimship Camino de Santiago (way of Saint James), now considered by Unesco a world heritage site. Until today it attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to its fantastic monuments. The town is named after the Apostle Saint James ("Santiago"), who is buried here (see history and legend) 2004 Santiago celebrates a jubilee year, and the Plan Xacobeo 04 has made it possible to restore many historical buildings as well as to program a series of cultural events and spectacles including music, theater and dance. During the year 2000 Santiago de Compostela shared the title of european cultural capital.
